Thoughts, Words, Works

A Fresh Outlook @

It's been just over 5 years since this site's last overhaul, and once again much has changed in that interval. Unlike last time, those events have been catalogued on this very blog, although as always I am not consistent enough in posting. Pleasantly, I find that things here in the world wide web are changing much more rapidly now, and generally for the better. Looking back, I have a great respect for the forces prompting the modern web revolution. Back in 2008 when I last redesigned the site, standards advocates and better browsers had finally ousted the hated tyrant from power, and the concept of a 'smart phone' was barely starting to take hold. HTML5 was a giant soup of diffuse elements trying to consolidate themselves into a standard. The web was slowly crawling out of a dark age.

Thank goodness things have changed.

My recent resolution to make time for productive things in addition to fun things has met with mixed results. I would be lying if I said I hadn't relapsed slightly into time-wasting habits. However, I think it has been a good move overall. For one thing, I've found time to get around to all the remaining improvements I had originally planned for this site - limited HTML tags in comments, improved recognition of off-site URLs in comment link fields, and individual tags/categories for blog posts. (For that last one, check the new blue tag icon on the corner of posts.) I also ended up finding time to read through a screenplay a friend of mine is working on (an adaptation of nigh-unfilmable Philip K. Dick novel Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said).

So, with that out of the way, I'm about ready to move on to my next target: Blame!

Site Redesign! @

Well, well, well. It's been a long time coming, but I've finally decided to revise my site. I mean, seriously, in the years since I last even posted anything, here are some things that have happened since then: Daylight Savings Time was changed (so some of those dates that were PST before are now PDT - not that I knew how to properly differentiate between the two back then!); the United States elected its first black president; I turned 19, 20, and 21 (with 22 looming just days away)... Ryan North created 746 new Dinosaur Comics; all three current-gen consoles (the Xbox360, Wii, and PS3) launched; I made many new friends and spent countless hours with them; I started another possibly-ill-fated project, ReVamped, I worked two summers writing documentation for embedded Linux... Much has happened. So why am I updating the site now? Well, I can't let it remain out of date forever. In fact, lately I've been realizing how much I could use it better. And thus, my rewrite has begun...

Old Update 20 @

I finally went live with the new version of Planar Strife. It should look the same to you, but it's a lot more convenient for me. Watch out: more than one new chapter has been posted along with the update, so you'll have to read back a page or two. Oh, and I posted a new song, too, an Anime Remix. It's definitely my best song to date.

Old Update 19 @

I updated Planar Strife. You shocked? I think my writing is starting to improve as a I draw on my experiences in English and especially Latin literature. Some of those classics really are classic for a reason, I guess.

Old Update 18 @

So, I've been stalling from updating Planar Strife again. But, in the meantime, I've made 3 new wonderful wallpapers. Check 'em out, if you enjoy abstract stuff. If you're looking for anime wallpapers... you may have to wait. And by "may," I mean "will." Oh yeah, and I've been brushing up on my web design, so I may tweak the site design a bit. Maybe.
